Bad Numbers in Numerology – *2021 Update* Steer Clear of These!

Numerology, the belief that numbers have a direct relationship with divine events or direction in one’s life, draws attention from people of all walks of life – and for good reason.

If you’re just getting into this discipline, you’ll notice that most of the buzz around numerology is auspicious, promising, or optimistic.

But that isn’t always the case.

As with anything, there are two sides to numerology. It’s just as important to pay attention to bad omens as well as good.

Bad Numbers in Numerology

When it comes to numerology numbers aren’t exactly “bad” in the usual sense.

A number that is “bad” or unlucky for one person could be good or lucky for another. Numbers in numerology that have a negative effect on one’s life are considered to be unlucky, and they vary person to person with some exceptions.

Utilizing a full Numerology reading can help you determine what your personal unlucky numbers may be. However, there are some numbers that are generally viewed by the Numerology community as unlucky across the board.

How Are Unlucky Numbers Determined?

The Basics

At first glance Numerology might seem like a simple concept – a numerological reading, which you can get here if you haven’t had one yet, will reveal the major numbers at play in your life.

This can help set you on the correct path in life where you’ll get the most meaning and direction. It will also help you avoid pitfalls and snags that you could hit along the way as you’ll know what to keep an eye out for.

There are several different methods to determine meaningful numbers, but they require a professional who has worked extensively with the system of their focus.

Once they’re provided the information they need – usually your name and birth date – they can deliver a report for clients outlining areas of strength, weakness, and how to approach the world. Here’s a short list of Numerological disciplines:

  • Chinese numerology
  • The Chaldean System
  • The Pythagorean System
  • The Abjad System
  • Alphabetic Systems
  • Latin Alphabetic Systems

Look for Signs

The easiest way to figure out what numbers are unlucky for you is to simply pay attention.

If you stop and think for a moment you probably already have an idea of what number or numbers you think are unlucky. Maybe you don’t know exactly why, but that doesn’t matter. Your intuition tells you to be on the lookout when these numbers appear in your life and, sometimes, to actively avoid them.

You may for example feel that odd numbers are just “wrong” somehow, and will do what you can to make the reader at the gas station show an even number.

While this might seem like a quirky personal preference at first, it could actually be the universe giving you direction.

Practice being aware. If you find yourself in an unlucky or stressful situation, look around – check your watch, any surrounding symbols, and see if you recognize numbers that seem to repeat throughout your life in times of stress. Recurring numbers – lucky or unlucky – can guide you.

From time to time the term “vibrations” will come up in Numerology.

The Law of Vibration refers to a person’s ability to feel the energy connected to a certain number. This may be why some numbers, or even objects, just feel wrong to you, and you avoid them.

Numbers and objects give off energy that individuals can feel as vibrations if they open their mind and energy to being receptive to the information.

If you’re interested in harnessing this ability, there are several ways you can boost your senses.

Keep certain lucky or auspicious numbers around – write them down and carry them with you, change your passwords or phone number, schedule important events on dates that carry a positive significance for you.

But most importantly, don’t close yourself off to the energy you feel, even if it feels uncomfortable at times.

Common Unlucky Numbers in Numerology

  • 4: The number 4 is considered bad luck in the East, where numbers and numerology play a large part in the Eastern culture.

The reason for this is that the number 4, in Japanese, is extremely similar to the word for death. For comparison, 4 is considered unlucky in Japan, China, and Korea the same way that 13 is considered unlucky in America.

You might notice that 4 has a few bad connotations as well; for example, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Chinese buildings will often lack a 4th floor.
  • 13: This one needs little explanation behind it although you might not be aware of the history. The number 13 has long been considered an unlucky number outside of Numerology thanks to certain dates and horror movies.

Some people might be extra careful on any Friday that lands on the 13th of the month. Others might avoid the number 13 entirely.

The lack of luck in the number 13 can be traced back as far as ancient Sumeria, where 12 was considered perfect and 13 imperfect. Some modern day businesses even continue to abide by this belief and skip a 13th floor in their buildings.
  • 43: If you’re new to Numerology this might seem like a strange number to hold such dread for so many people.

But 43, even if it’s revealed to be a first name number, is generally avoided. In Japan the number 43 is excluded from maternity floors as it sounds similar to the word for “stillbirth”.

43 is a number that prevents people from reaching the divine plane, and seems to work against individuals as realizing that they are spiritual beings.
  • 666: Don’t roll your eyes – there’s good reason for 666 to appear as an unlucky number, although oddly enough the number 6 is a number representing support, loyalty, and many other positive personality traits.

However 6 can become a very angry, dangerous number when it isn’t attended to. The number 6 requires care and attention from others and can turn volatile if ignored. It can be seen as good luck in Asian cultures but poor luck in Western cultures when it shows up.

It’s common to see shoppers in a grocery store add something to their transaction if their total comes to $6.66. It’s also a number strongly associated with the bible, representative of the Devil and commonly referred to as the “number of the Beast.”

Significance in Numerology

As stated earlier, and proven by the above list of unlucky numbers, many numbers are considered to be unlucky because of their appearance in an individual’s life at a tumultuous time or because of cultural significance.

What is considered unlucky by one person may be lucky to another from a different culture. A perfect example of this is the Eastern versus Western cultural divide.

While Eastern numbers may be considered unlucky due to their appearance or sound being similar to a negative word (ex., “death” or “disaster”) Western cultures seem to focus more on biblical or religious meaning when they’re looking for bad omens.

Missing Numbers

If you’ve gone far enough in Numerology to have had your numbers read, you may have heard about missing numbers and the effect they can have on your life.

Missing name numbers represent traits or energy that is missing from you as an individual, and these numbers could be considered “bad” or unlucky for you personally.

For example, if the number 2 is missing, this could indicate that the individual doesn’t take relationships seriously and is less aware of the emotions and needs of others.

A missing number 7 could indicate that an individual is somewhat superficial and doesn’t find “deep meaning” to be important.

Missing numbers don’t need to be detrimental. In fact, they can be used in a positive way if you are aware of them and what they mean for you in terms of your weaknesses. Half the battle is knowing what you’re lacking.

No matter where you are in your journey with Numerology, it’s important to remember to trust your instincts. While having a positive outlook in life is important, it’s just as important to keep an eye out for things that don’t feel quite right.

This may be as simple as opening yourself to energy reception and realizing which numbers may be bad luck for you, or you can pursue a more professional path of having your numbers read and finding out which ones are missing from your life path and traits.
